History Continued (2)
Mr. Bonehill owned number 72 as well as 74 and he charged George Cheal a rent of £16 per year. The landlord paid for repairs and insurance and the occupier
was responsible for rates and taxes. The property was described at the time as red-brick, painted and tiled, with, on the first floor, 2 bedrooms, a small landing and an attic. The ground floor comprised the front shop, small window, small kitchen, sitting room at the side of the shop and one cellar.
There was a small yard, a workshop and a W.C. but no water laid on. The Cheals stayed in Number 74 until 1964. (At that time number 76 was a Restaurant/Coffee House.)
In more recent times Number 74 has become a popular restaurant.
